Well known for its natural landscapes, its fantastic climate, the rich shoreline, and by the vast and beautiful flora, the Pearl of the Atlantic presents us with numerous possibilities to enjoy the best that nature has to offer us.
Being located on a plateau with 1,482 acres of land, situated in the east part of the Island, Santo da Serra is a small village with about 2500 habitants who are mostly engaged in the agriculture, fruit-growing, floriculture and traditional trade. This region is also known for its beautiful old farms, some of them restored and adapted for tourist purposes, and, among these, is the Quinta do Pântano, a small paradise within the paradise.
With an area of 14,000 m2, the farm is in the Pereira family since 1928, owes its name to the swamp existing in the same and in it is contained a small sample of the vast flora of Madeira and that can be appreciated by any visitor through a pleasant tour of the property. In addition to being very well located, only 150 metres from the centre of the village, with easy access to bus stops, health centre, pharmacy, to restaurants, to the supermarket and to the church, Quinta do Pântano is a quiet and reserved place, with a rural environment and a magnificent surrounding landscape, ideal to relax and recover from the city stress of the day-to- day.
Organic certification is another quality of the farm. In addition to production of flowers, we are dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables and the various fruits with which we make our own jams. Our goal is not mass production, but to produce with quality, while preserving all the benefits of the food and, at the same time, praising its taste. For an additional cost, our guests can enjoy a fantastic breakfast which, in addition to bread, milk, tea and coffee, contains typical fruit of the region and organic products of the Farm such as homemade jams and eggs. As a sign of welcome, Quinta do Pântano offers its customers the first breakfast of your stay.
At the Farmhouse, our guests can enjoy a magnificent landscape and a welcoming environment, as well as shuttle service, free parking, laundry service, joint barbecue, sun loungers and tables for dining in the gardens.
Quinta do Pântano is located just 7Km from the airport and from the beaches of Santa Cruz and Machico, 500 meters from the equestrian center and the golf club of Santo da Serra and within 1 km of several “levadas”. For those who want to get to know the local cuisine, we recommend a visit to the Cider House and the farmer’s Market, which takes place every weekend in the centre of Santo da Serra, where it is possible, among other things, taste the traditional “espetada” dish with “bolo do caco” and the well known poncha.
If your objective is to get to know the rich landscapes of Madeira, we recommend a visit to Pico do Areeiro, where you can see a fantastic sunrise, a visit to the Quinta da Junta that in addition to the tennis court and mini golf (for free), has a belvedere with a view over the valley of Machico, finally, but no less enjoyable, we recommend a walk along the levada “Santo da Serra-Portela- Ribeiro frio”, where you can, in the end, visit a breeding centre for trout.
